Ken,
I've got a set of helmet speakers called "mini-blasters" that I purchased from Aerostitch/Riderwearhouse for $35 plus shipping.
.
I "installed" them under the lining of my Shoei RF-800 helmet according to the instructions that are not recommended (as a disclaimer) in the 'Philosophy on Music Systems' section of their catalog. I use a conventional radio/cassette walkman with it (I found the new ones with LCD display and pushbutton presets work best on the steed) that is mounted to the tank with a velcro strap that wraps around the tank bib. I can just clip it on or off in an instant.
The quality of music from the helmet speakers is remarkable. It allows me to listen to music without cutting out important outside traffic sounds. On long trips, I use disposible ear plugs to which I made a small hole in each using a heated pin. The resulting 'tunnel' in the ear plug acts as an attenuator, allowing the music in, but keeping wind noise out.
When I don't use the speakers I practically forget they are there. And they sure are far more comfortable and less cumbersome than earplug/earbud headphones under one's helmet. Taking the helmet on & off at gas stops and such is no problem with the installed speakers. I hope this info helps ya' out. Ride safe.
